RIZITUALS is an extatic female musical ritual inspired from the Rizitika songs of western Crete.

Rizitikο is an ancient Cretan vocal tradition, a musical treasure basically unknown in Europe and the world ! In this album we create new musical rituals inspired by this tradition.

Within RIZITUALS, we seek for the identity of the modern woman : inspired by the past, by traditions and archetypes but looking towards the future, she creates new musical rituals with unparalleled female power !

Xanthoula Dakovanou is a special singer-composer, whose work is inspired by musical traditions of Greece and the wider Mediterranean and creates music that concerns modern societies.

Her musical works have been distinguished in the World Music Charts and have been presented to important international festivals such as the Avignon Festival, the Athens-Epidaurus Festival, Théâtre du Châtelet, Théâtre de la Villette, les Suds à Arles, All of Greece one Culture Festival etc.

Her works have received the Auspices of the Greek Ministry of Culture three times until today.

Being also a psychiatrist, psychoanalyst and music therapist, her musical works are governed by a deep understanding of the human psyche, capturing the expression of emotions, intrapsychic conflicts and unconscious processes into music.

Between Paris and Athens since 2005, her discography, counts until to date 4 records as a creator and 12 as a guest performer.

Xanthoula Dakovanou is a psychiatrist, psychoanalyst and music therapist who holds a PhD thesis in the subject of ‘Music and Psychoanalysis’ (University Paris Sorbonne).

Being a performing musician as well as a composer, her therapeutic work is deeply governed by principles of music therapy.

She has worked clinically both in France and in Greece, using among others a music therapy protocol of her own inspiration: ‘Analytical musicodrama’, which she teaches actually at the Music therapy Institute of Nantes, in France.

She is also the author of numerous scientific articles in french, english and greek on the subject ‘Music and Psychoanalysis’ and she is a visiting lecturer at the universities of Paris Sorbonne as well as the NKUA University.
